Former Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has remained non-committal about a potential return to public office, stating that he is enjoying his current rest but leaving the door open to future possibilities. When asked if he would consider serving his people again in a different capacity come 2027, Ikpeazu emphasized that his legacy, whether viewed positively or negatively, will continue to be a reference point.
“There is no other point to be made here, I have made my point. The Okezie Ikpeazu factor will continue to serve as a reference point, either for good or for bad, depending on who is talking,” he said. “For now, I’m resting and enjoying it. At the fullness of time, who knows?”
Ikpeazu highlighted that his relationships are more personal than political. “I have more friends than political allies. I don’t even know if I have political allies; what I have are friends,” he added.
When pressed about whether he would consider representing his people in Abuja, Ikpeazu was clear: “If I won’t be useful in Abuja, I sincerely won’t go. I’m grateful that fate has given me this rest because it has allowed me to learn things I wouldn’t have known otherwise, including the value of true friendships.”
While the former governor seems content in his current state of rest, his comments suggest he has not completely ruled out future service, leaving his political future open to speculation.
