On the basis of continuity and in furtherance of his roundly celebrated ambition to go back for a second term to represent the good people of Etim Ekpo/Ika State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, AKHA come 2023, Hon. Mfon Idung consulted Etim Ekpo and Ika Councillors forum.
Addressing the Councilors, Hon. Mfon Idung remarked that it is cultural and in the spirit of consultation that he consulted and formally informed the Councillors of his intention to go back for a second term in order to garner more capacity towards attracting more Democratic deliverables to the area. He informed the people that, if he goes back, there were higher offices awaiting him including becoming a principal officer which will enable him touch a lot more people and impact lives meaningfully.
Speaking further, the Lawmaker recalled his days as Executive Chairman, he noted that it was in his days that councillors were given cars without having to repay for the cars from their salaries. “I could remember giving all my ten Councillors in the Council cars without bothering to withdraw the money from their salaries, since it was my sincere intention to empower them and also ease their movements. I can also say emphatically that as a serving member in the AKHA, l have given people more cars than I did when I was Chairman. Invariably inferring that, l would give many more people cars when I go back for a second term, in view of an expanded capacity to do so. That is my desire, to see young people excel and make substantial progress in life. My second term priority is to take young people to the center stage of productivity”.
The leading aspirant for Etim Ekpo/Ika State Constituency seat come 2023 also sued for heightened support for the Senate ambition of Barr. Emmanuel Enoidem, saying that, Enoidem’s victory is the collective victory of the Constituency. He described Barr. Emmanuel Enoidem as a man with a wider vision for the people of Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District.
Collaborating the lawmaker’s remarks, Hon. Ekpuk Eshiet rephrased that, Hon. Mfon Idung was the first Executive Chairman to buy cars for all his Councillors. “Hon. Mfon Idung was the first Chairman that bought cars and presented to all 10 Councillors in Etim Ekpo. l was the person that shared the cars to the 10 Councillors, and the cars were all choiced vehicles. If I may query a little, l would say that, they were other Council Chairmen that had such amazing opportunity to have done same or more even with “Sure – P and Excess Crude” money but couldn’t do. If you see them, ask them what they did with such money windfall. Today, some of them are the ones causing disaffection in the Local Government, engendering divide and rule, eliciting malicious intentions and orchestrating friction in Etim Ekpo LGA. They are the ones chanting take over songs with ill motivated intention to tear the Local Government apart and make us a people without a leader and a common front”. – Hon. Ekpuk Eshiet lamented.
The Director General of Voice of Victory Campaign Organisation who doubles as the President General of Enoidem Support Group, ESG, Barr. Utibe Nwoko, particularly observed that, at no point would any son of Ika indicate interest to contest for House of Assembly seat because an Etim Ekpo person must do two terms just like Ika did two terms in the person of Hon. Gabriel Toby. He noted that it is only fair for Hon. Mfon Idung to go back and complete his second term on the ground of fairness, justice and equity. He pacified Councillors from Ika to see beyond preposterous and immediate gains towards supporting Hon. Mfon Idung to return to the House, thereby consciously paving for an Ika person when it returns to Ika.
The Voice of Victory Campaign Director General, Barr. Utibe Nwoko assured the Lawmaker of bloc votes from Ika, as Ika delegates are ready to ensure he has a smooth ride back to the House of Assembly come 2023.
The Leader of Etim Ekpo Legislative Council, Hon. Uduakobong Udofa and his Ika counterpart Hon. Iboro Okpo equally assured that, they are working assiduously to ensure Hon. Mfon Idung return to the House as a mark of appreciation for a job well done in his first term, stating that, one good term deserves another.
“MP, we want to assure you that we will not let you down because doing that is betrayal and outright disloyalty to our party. The votes that we have belongs to the party and we shall relinquish same when the party so demand for them, we are mere custodians. So, be rest assured that all these Councillors are with you spirit, soul and body” – Hon. Uduakobong Udofa assured.
The Councillor were visibly elated and delighted for the honour done on them by the House Member coming to officially intimate and consult them on his second term aspiration, even as they took their turns to eulogise the Lawmaker as a man whose commitment, efforts and visionary leadership has been adjudged as “unparalleled”.
They unanimously pledged their unwavering support for Hon. Mfon Idung to go back for a second term, in order to track down more democratic benefits to the State Constituency.
Present during the consultation were: Executive Chairman, Etim Ekpo LGA, Hon. Imeh Afia, Vice Chairman, Hon. Nyeti Eno Eyo, Vice Chairman, Ika LGA, Hon. Idongesit David Augustine, Leader, Etim Ekpo Legislature, Hon. Uduakobong Udofa and his Ika counterpart, Hon. Iboro Okpo, Hon. Ekpuk Eshiet, Barr.
