Akwa Ibom Community Stakeholders Hail Governor Emmanuel, Welcome New Ward Excos


Stakeholders and leaders in Eket local government area have reaffirmed their total support to the completion agenda of Governor Udom Emmanuel in Akwa Ibom State.


They stated these in separate remarks during the inauguration of the coordinating committees of Maintain Peace Movement, in the 14 respective Wards of Eket local government area on Tuesday.


They believed that with the progress recorded so far in the area, and the ongoing projects currently noticed, Eket has been given more attention by Governor Emmanuel than any previous administration since the creation of the state in 1987.


The inauguration ceremonies were conducted by the Coordinator of the MPM in Eket, and Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Honourable Frank Archibong, accompanied by the Eket State Constituency lawmaker, David Lawrence, Chairman of the Area, Akaniyene Tommey, PDP chapter Chairman, Emmanuel Mbong, Secretary of the MPM, Anyang Ayang, among other PDP leaders and stakeholders from the area.


The inauguration of the Wards Coordinating Committees commenced from mid morning in Okon where the three wards had new their executive committees, from where the train went to Urban Zone and had four wards inaugurated.

The Coordinator of the Maintain Peace Movement, Eket Chapter, Rt. Hon. Frank Archibong, who performed the Inauguration, explained that the movement is aimed at maintaining and sustaining peace beyond 2023.


” There is need for us to maintain peace, the tenure of the Governor will come to an end in the next 2 years, who will be the next driver of peace, we need a man of peace to succeed him that’s one of the reasons Maintain peace has come”

“The main aim of this movement is to join hands with the Governor to entrench peace in the state beyond his administration.”


He attributed the influx of conferences and major investments in the state, to the state’s prevailing peace, describing Akwa Ibom as Nigeria’s most peaceful state.

“There can be no development and progress without peace, Now everybody wants to use Ibom Air, Conferences now occur our state every other week. These provide a major boost in our economy.”


“To sustain and maintain peace after 2023, we cannot eradicate crime but we can reduce it to the barest minimum and that’s what Governor Udom Emmanuel is doing.

Rt. Hon Frank Archibong inaugurated a total of fourteen ( 14) ward steering committees noting that the Maintain peace movement is a Subset of the People’s Democratic Party, Urging the people who wish to join the PDP to take advantage of the ongoing online registration process.


He added that those who are of voting age but are yet to obtain a voter’s card to visit any INEC registration centre and obtain their PVCs to be eligible to vote for candidates of their choice in the 2023 direct-primary elections.


A renowned Geologist, Prof. Etie Ben Akpan, Honourary Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, Dominic Ukpong, and Chief Joseph Ubokudom were among those who presented good will messages of commendation to the Governor on behalf of the wards stakeholders at the Okon Zone, promising to work towards the sustainability of the peace enjoyed in the state.


During the inauguration of the coordinating committees in Urban ward 1, 2, 3, and 4, the political leader General Anthony Etukudo,Rtd, PDP chairman, Emman Mbong, wife of the Paramount Ruler, Obonganwan Mandu Abia, and a political chieftain, Chief Christopher Using lend their voices in support of the peace movement, insisting that through peace, more developments would be enjoyed in the area.

The train later harboured at the Central Zone, with the entire seven remaining wards were visited and wards excos inaugurated for MPM.


The local government chairman, Hon. Akaniyene Tommey, a former House of Assembly Member, Barr Jack Udota, member of the Akwa Ibom Internal Revenue Board, Elder Nse Atang and a retired Head of Civil Service, Apostle Sunny Akpadiaha, all spoke in eloquent tunes about Governor Emmanuel’s impressive performance in the state.

Also inaugurated on Tuesday was MPM Youth wing with Comrade Tommy Enodien and Joseph Charles emerging as the Coordinator and Secretary respectively. Other members sworn into the Youth Wing are Senior Comrade Daniel Essien, Comrade Bassey Bassey, Mr Kufre Akpeka and Comrade Godwin Nduaesa as Adviser.
