Edo 2024: “We don’t need leaders who speak grammar” – Akpabio defends Okpebholo

Godswill Akpabio, Nigeria’s Senate President, has defended the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo on his ability to speak correct English.

Okpebholo has come under scrutiny for his inability to correctly engage in the English language.

The APC candidate has also refused to attend political debates or media interviews since declaring his intention to govern the south-south state.

But, speaking at the APC’s grand finale rally in Benin on Saturday, Akpabio said speaking correct English is not a required skill for good leadership.

Akpabio, in his address, said Okpebholo and Idahosa (APC deputy governorship candidate) would fulfil their electoral promises, adding that Edo needed leaders who could perform, not just those who could speak “grammar.”

He urged Edo residents to turn out in large numbers to vote for the APC on September 21.

Akpabio also expressed confidence in Okpebholo’s ability to deliver.
