Ex-Kano governor Shekarau criticizes EFCC’s ’embarrassing’ showdown with Yahaya Bello

Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, former Governor of Kano State, has criticized the operational tactics of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), stating that it should not behave like typical Nigerian security forces, who often hide and wait for individuals to commit offences before taking action.

Instead, he emphasized that the EFCC should proactively evaluate its methods and adopt more strategic, transparent practices.

Shekarau, who was speaking on Channels Television this morning, specifically referenced the ongoing confrontation between the EFCC and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, calling it “embarrassing” and a reflection of the need for the commission to reform its approach.

His words: “EFCC is not supposed to behave like the typical security man in Nigeria, hiding in a corner, waiting for you to commit an offence then jump out to arrest you.

“The commission should look inward and change its mode of operation. The recent drama between the EFCC and the former governor of Kogi state, Yahaya Bello is very embarrassing.”
