Factional PDP’s new acting chairman takes swift action ahead of 2027 elections

The newly appointed acting national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Yayari Mohammed, is making headlines for his immediate action to revitalise the party as it gears up for the 2027 elections.

Ikenga Ugochinyere, the spokesman for the coalition of opposition lawmakers, praised Mohammed’s decision, stating, “The decision of the new acting chairman demonstrates his understanding of the urgency to reposition the party for greater electoral success.”

Ugochinyere emphasised that this initiative reflects Mohammed’s commitment to addressing the urgent needs of party members.

“It shows that the National Chairman understands the urgent desire of members of what was once the biggest political party in Africa to sanitize the system, restore internal democracy, and bring peace and cohesion back to the party,” he added.

Following his acceptance speech, Ugochinyere noted that Mohammed’s prompt actions have rekindled hope among the PDP family.

He expressed strong support for the new leadership, asserting, “Our group in the House will support the new acting leadership in its resolve to ensure rapid reform of the party.”
