Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has hinted at contesting the 2027 presidential election under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The governor made the hint on Saturday while speaking at the commissioning of the PDP Southwest zonal secretariat, named after late Soji Adagunodo.
Makinde slammed the All Progressives Congress (APC) for failing Nigerians.
“The APC has been at the helm of affairs in this country, and they have woefully failed us. The people of Nigeria must now decide whether to retain them in power or vote them out,” Makinde stated.
He added, “Nigerians are suffering, and there must be an end to it. We need to unite and push for change.”
Makinde described the 2027 election as a referendum on APC’s governance, with Nigerians at the forefront of the decision-making process.
Addressing PDP’s internal conflicts, he urged leadership to take decisive action. “The enemies of the party are within,” he warned.
Regarding his presidential aspirations, Makinde said, “Current realities will guide my choices.”
The situation in the country has, in the past couple of months, slid from bad to worse. Notedly, Nigeria grapples with petrol price hikes, electricity tariff increases, and naira devaluation, making the country’s population poorer by the day.
At the event, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke echoed the need for unity, urging honest discussions to heal party rifts.
Meanwhile, the acting national chairman of the PDP, Ambassador Illiya Damagum, praised PDP governors for showcasing the party’s values.
He said, “Our governors are the backbone of our party, showcasing the values we stand for across the nation.”
