Kano LG Elections free and fair – Gov Yusuf

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has lauded the peaceful conduct of the local government elections across the state’s 44 local government areas.

Briefing journalists after casting his vote in Gwale local government area, the governor expressed his appreciation for the support of other states’ electoral commission chairmen who monitored the elections.

The governor noted that the elections, which took place in 484 wards across the 44 local governments, were the freest in Kano’s history.

He assured that those elected would serve the people’s interests and his administration would ensure good governance.

The governor commended the chairman and staff of Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) for ensuring the conduct of “free and fair elections in Kano”.

He said: “When it comes to election, there shouldn’t be any impunity and we should ensure that people are allowed to vote their mandate

“I am appealing to the judiciary to continue being neutral when it comes to Elections. It is not so good for our judiciary to be partisan even though the Kano state government is the only Government which came into office under the platform of NNPP, we shouldn’t be intimidated, people of Kano are peace loving people but if they are pushed to the wall they can react.

“We’ve seen what happened in Rivers, so we took proactive measures in ensuring that similar scenario does not happen in Kano.”

Governor Yusuf further urged the opposition to accept defeat, citing his party’s strong voter support.

“I want to appeal to the opposition to always accept defeat as we have upper hand in terms of voters’ support”
