Many ‘trapped’ in fire outbreak at Lagos plank market

A yet-to-be-ascertained number of persons are believed to be trapped in a fire outbreak at the Oko Baba plank market in the Ebute Metta area of Lagos.

Rescuers from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and officials of both the State and Federal Fire Service are battling to contain the fire that is fast spreading.

Policemen from Denton Police Station and Area C, Surulere, have condoned off the area, while locals are also helping emergency workers fight the fire.

Nosa Okunbor, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of LASEMA, who confirmed the incident, said the agency’s response team, LRU Fire Unit, and Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service were battling the fire.

Okunbor said all rescuers were in search and rescue operation at the Oko Baba plank market by Ibadan Street, Ebute Metta.
