Minimum Wage: Organised Labour Releases Communique

The National Executive Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and Trade Union Congress, TUC has directed workers to return to their workplace following the suspension of the nationwide strike over conflicts on the new minimum wage.

This was contained in a communique co-signed by Comrade Joe Ajaero, the NLC President and Comrade Engr. Festus Osifo, the TUC President on Tuesday at the call off of the two-day strike embarked upon by workers.

It stated that the one-week relaxation of the strike which commenced on Tuesday is to give the Federal government an opportunity to commit to a higher minimum wage and reverse the electricity tariff to N66/kWh.

The statement revealed that the TUC and NLC leadership is mandated to maintain an open channel of communication to negotiate a favourable wage for Workers.

It urged all to remain calm and await further directives from the Union as it is committed to protecting the welfare of the Nigerian workers.
