Overwhelmed by workers compliance to the nationwide strike by the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress, TUC , despite warning of a looming jail term for absent workers, the Federal government has summoned a meeting of the Tripartite Committee through the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC).

The meeting will hold on Tuesday, June 5, 2024.

NLC/TUC kicked off indefinite nationwide strike over inability of the FG to agree on a new minimum wage which improves the living standard of workers in the country.

While Labour Unions proposed N494,000, FG proposed N60,000 which prompted Labour leaders to walk away from a meeting with representatives of the FG on 31st of May.

On Monday, workers in Nigeria protested and shut down operations in compliance with the Labour directives.

ASUU, Nurses Union, Parliamentary Staff Union of Nigeria also joined the indefinite strike action shutting down the National Assembly.

The two gates of the Assembly complex were shut by the union with workers and other visitors unable to gain access.

The electricity and water supply to the two buildings housing the Senate and the House of Representatives as well as other facilities in the complex have been shut down by the union.
