NigeriaAt64: House Committee Chairman On Interior Sues For Peace, Nation-Building

The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Interior, Hon Abdullahi Ahmad, has urged Nigerians to prioritise patriotism, unity nation-building and peace above other pecuniary considerations as they celebrate the nation’s 64th independence from the grip of colonialism.

Ahmad, in Tuesday’s statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Sardauna Francis, said the anniversary offered Nigerians a chance to reflect on the experience of nationhood, peace-building, resilience and the prospect of progress and greatness.

He said in spite of the numerous challenges the founding fathers of Nigeria had gone through while fighting for the nation’s freedom from the colonial masters, their resilience, unity and acts of patriotism led to the establishment of a sovereign and independent nation.

The lawmaker who represents Musawa/Matazu Federal Constituency of Katsina State said Nigeria’s founding fathers, through their doggedness, laid the foundation for the nation on the principles of fairness, equity, justice and progress, hence the seventh unbroken democratic governance in the country.

Described in many quarters as a global ambassador of peace, an icon of democracy and a symbol of hope, Dujiman Katsina believes that democracy remains the best platform for nation-building as it allows every citizen to have a say on how the country should be governed.

He urged Nigerians to reflect on the struggle and sacrifice of the founding fathers of the 64-year-old nation and to operate on the promises of freedom, hope, peace and unity to ensure that the labour of the heroes and heroines of Nigerian democracy is not in vain.

The first Dujiman Katsina said: “Sixty-four years ago, we made a procession of victory as we bade farewell to colonialism and emancipated our land from the clutches of servitude. Thus, we have every cause to reflect on the experience of nationhood, the prospect of our greatness and how to surmount the challenges that limit our progress as a nation.

“I appreciate the founding fathers of Nigeria for their dedication, resilience, selflessness and leadership towards the nation’s freedom from her colonial masters. By democratically electing a 7th consecutive civilian government, Nigeria has proven that commitment to democracy and the rule of law remains our guiding light.”

While expressing his unwavering dedication to serving the people of Musawa/Matazu Federal Constituency faithfully through visible and indelible democratic dividends, the lawmaker called on Nigerians to demonstrate faith in moments of doubt, display resilience in times of adversity and pursue peace when unity is about to be threatened.

He, however, commended President Bola Tinubu, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina State and the security agencies, for sustaining the fight against banditry in the North-west, with tremendous improvement in peace and security in the region.

He stated that Governor Radda’s bold initiatives and determined pursuit of justice against the perpetrators of violence are a testament to his loyalty, courage, and steadfast commitment to the security and well-being of the state.
