NNPP Suspends Kano SSG, Transport Commissioner

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) of Kano State on Monday night suspended the Secretary to the Kano State Government Abdullahi Bichi and the state Commissioner for Transport Muhammed Diggo.

The party’s state chairman Hashimu Dungurawa confirmed this.

“We are announcing today that we have suspended the SSG, Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, and the Commissioner of Transportation, Muhammad Diggol, over abuse of power, office, and disloyalty to the party,” Dungurawa stated. He noted that the decision followed written complaints submitted by party leaders from Bichi North, where both officials are based,” he said.

He added, “We commend the leadership of the party from their wards and the Local Government for bringing the issue to us. Their effort in documenting and submitting the concerns in writing facilitated the investigation and decision-making process.”

The suspension is said to have come after several issues arising from the ward and local government leadership of the party. The DG of information Sanusu Bature told Channels Television that the suspended duo had been undermining the leadership and structure of the party and with confirmations of allegations from the local leadership writing a formal complaint, the suspension was inevitable.

Governor Yusuf’s Reconciliation Efforts

Amid the NNPP’s internal tensions, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf recently mediated a reconciliation meeting, aiming to resolve disagreements among party stakeholders. The closed-door meeting, held at the Governor’s office, involved key figures such as SSG Dr. Baffa Bichi and Bichi local government chairmanship aspirant, Hon. Hamza Sule Maifata. The reconciliation efforts were convened at the request of the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Jibrin Ismail Falgore, and other House leaders.

Following the meeting, Dr. Bichi expressed willingness to abide by the Governor’s leadership and distanced himself from the “Abba Tsaya da Kafar ka” faction, which had called for division between Governor Yusuf and the party’s national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

“I have since submitted myself and all my activities to Governor Abba Yusuf as our leader and accepted all that he wanted. I am ready to abide by it. Regarding the factional group they are talking about, I have nothing to do with them,” Dr. Bichi stated. He also discussed his role in the “1 to Tell 10” campaign initiative for the presidential bid, emphasizing that it was not related to the internal conflicts.

Similarly, Hon. Hamza Sule Maifata committed to working towards peace. “We voiced our grievances today and came to understand that they were largely fueled by rumors and the enemies of the party,” he said. “We have now forgiven each other and embraced peace. We will work together like we used to.”

The Back Story

The NNPP, led by Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is the ruling party in Kano State and an influential force in the state’s political landscape. The suspension of Bichi and Diggol underscores the party’s commitment to addressing issues of misconduct while maintaining discipline and unity within its ranks. Although reconciliation efforts continue, the suspensions are seen as a separate matter, determined by the party’s internal processes.
