October 5: A Done Deal for Tommey, PDP Candidates – Eket Leaders Assure
Leaders and residents of Eket Local Government Area have confidently declared that the forthcoming October 5 local government polls will be a resounding victory for Hon. Akan Tommey, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmanship candidate, and the party’s councilorship candidates. This assertion is premised on the overwhelming support and acceptance by the people, who are eager to demonstrate their gratitude and commitment to continuity of good governance.
At the PDP campaign in Eket on Thursday, September 26, 2024, various speakers echoed the sentiments of the people, expressing satisfaction with the PDP’s legacies and pledging to deliver the highest number of votes for the party, not only in the local government elections but also in the next general election.
Rt. Hon. (Chief) Nduese Essien, political leader of Eket Senatorial District, emphasized, “PDP’s dominance in Eket is unwavering. We will undoubtedly return all our candidates elected on October 5. Our chairmanship candidate, Hon. Akan Tommey, has an impeccable track record as councilor and local government chairman. Our Governor, an “Eket” son, has also made significant strides. There’s every reason to continue supporting PDP in Eket. Victory is assured.”
Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mkpisong Frank Archibong, reaffirmed the party’s confidence, stating, “We have no genuine competition. Our focus is on internal competition among wards to deliver the highest number of votes. This healthy rivalry will propel us to triumph. Eket will outshine other local government areas in the 2027 general election. This election is a mere formality – we will emerge victorious.”
Dr. Essien Ndueso, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Research and Documentation, noted, “Today, we gather not to campaign but to celebrate. For PDP, this election is a foregone conclusion. Eket is a bastion of celebration, thanks to PDP’s numerous achievements. Politicians campaign elsewhere but come to Eket to relax and rejoice.”
State PDP Chairman, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Aniekan Akpan, praised Eket’s massive mobilization and assured that the party is ready for both the October 5 and 2027 polls. “We anticipate Eket people will maintain their winning tradition, electing all PDP candidates with a landslide victory, setting the stage for an even bigger statement in 2027.”
Hon. Akan Tommey, the chairmanship candidate, expressed gratitude to the party for the opportunity to serve and vowed not to disappoint the party and the people of Eket. His last sentence was a take home for anyone, ” I am a chosen, election who are you”

(Dr) Nsidibe Akata, member representing Eket in the state assembly; Transition Committee Chairman, Mrs. Comfort Emmanuel; PDP Chapter Chairman, Mr. Uso Hanson; HRM Obonganwan Mandu Abia, wife of the paramount ruler of Eket; Dr.(Mrs.) Bright Archibong and Hon. Tommy Enodien, representing the youth.
The Eket campaign, held at the Eket Sports Stadium, drew a massive crowd of supporters, with key leaders and stakeholders in attendance and featured the defection of former Chairman of the area, Obong Samuel Atang to the PDP.
