“Okpebholo is God-sent, his victory divine punishment for Obaseki” – Ex-Edo gov’s aide

Solomon Okoduwa, a former Senior Special Assistant to the outgoing Governor of Edo, Godwin Obaseki, has described the state’s newly elected governor, Monday Okpebholo, as a “God-sent” leader, stressing that his victory signals divine intervention.

Okpebholo, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was declared the winner of Saturday’s governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), defeating the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Asue Ighodalo and the Labour Party’s Olumide Akpata.

In a statement issued today, Okoduwa claimed that Okpebholo’s win represents God’s punishment for Obaseki, whom he accused of governing with “wickedness, vendetta, and high-handedness.”

Okoduwa praised Okpebholo’s character, emphasizing the humility and accessibility that defined the APC candidate’s approach throughout the campaign.

“Okpebholo, from his background, is God-sent. The way he addresses issues and relates to people, you will never see arrogance in him,” he stated.

Okoduwa added that the governor-elect’s ability to connect with the people of Edo State, especially returnees and marginalized groups, played a crucial role in his victory.

“That is why the entire returnees protested against [Obaseki] and voted for Okpebholo,” he continued.

Speaking on Obaseki, he said: “Almighty God deliberately wanted to punish Obaseki by giving him defeat because of his wickedness to returnees and other indigenes of Edo State.”

He further elaborated on the factors that, in his view, contributed to Obaseki’s electoral downfall.

“The factors that led to his defeat were his wickedness and high-handedness, unforgiving spirit, and vendetta,” he said.
