“Powerful forces preventing Edo people from receiving their mandate” – Joyce Daniels

Joyce Daniels, Director of Strategy for the Asue Ighodalo Campaign Organisation, has raised concerns over alleged obstruction by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in granting the people of Edo State their rightful electoral mandate.

Speaking on Arise TV, Daniels stated that multiple requests for critical documents, which the Electoral Act guarantees, have been systematically ignored or met with excuses, frustrating the campaign’s efforts for transparency.

“We have made several requests for documents, which the Electoral Act entitles us to request. However, INEC has provided various excuses,” Daniels stated.

Daniels also expressed frustration over the rejection of a formal notice for review, which the campaign submitted to ensure that electoral processes are duly followed.

The rejection, according to Daniels, reflects a broader attempt to obstruct the will of the people in Edo State as they prepare to elect their next governor.

“Our notice for review was rejected outright,” she added.

The Ighodalo campaign had demanded that INEC respect the provisions of the Electoral Act by making all necessary documents available.

This, they argue, is not just for the benefit of their campaign but for the integrity of the entire electoral process in Edo State.

Daniels called for vigilance, warning that the future of democracy in Edo State could be at stake if the right steps are not taken to ensure a transparent electoral process.
