Security Agencies Need Willpower To Crush Bandits, Says Expert

A security expert, Vince Onyekwelu, says the Federal Government is finding it hard to combat banditry in the country because it doesn’t have the right training and equipment.

Onyekwelu spoke on Channels Television’s breakfast programme, Sunrise Daily, on Wednesday.

He said, “We are very much behind in the capability to catch bandits. It is a willpower issue because if you can protect yourself tech-wise, they (bandits) won’t be able to find you.

“Most of the security officers are not highly trained, with all due respect, I’ve been able to train some of them and most of them don’t even know what they are doing.”

“Sometimes, you see a governor’s convoy and his security men are pressing their mobile phones, they are on WhatsApp instead of being in an operation mode in an air-conditioned vehicle. The orientation of our security agencies is very low, they don’t have the willpower to do the job right,” he added.
