On this day, January 29, 1968, Lt. Col. Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu announces the introduction of new Biafran currencies and postage stamps in Owerri, present-day Imo State.
The Biafran pound remained the only medium of exchange in Biafra until the war ended in 1970.
