Wike Vows Not To Support Obaseki, PDP Gov Candidate Ahead Of Edo Polls

FCT minister, Nyesom Wike has vowed not to support Godwin Obaseki of Edo State ahead of the governorship election scheduled for September 21, 2024.

Wike made this known during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Friday

He also vowed not to throw his support behind the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Asue Ighodalo, who has the backing of Obaseki, the outgoing governor.

The FCT minister described Obaseki as an ingrate.

”I told them when they came to me I said I am not going to support you neither am I going to support anybody, the one I supported you never helped anything but rather I was insulted,” Wike disclosed, referencing his fallout with Obaseki.

Recall that Wike, then as Governor of Rivers State, supported Obaseki in his Edo governorship re-election bid of September 2020.

The two men, however, fell apart following the crisis that rocked the PDP when Obaseki backed the 2023 PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar while Wike had demanded the resignation of then PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu.
